米国ワシントン州の姉妹都市シアトルにおいて、「神戸ビーフフェア」が開催されます。「神戸ビーフ」は、２０１２年二米国へ初めて輸出され、高級和牛肉の中でも最高の知名度を誇っています。シアトルでは、一昨年、兵庫県とワシントン州の姉妹提携50周年記念イベントの一環として、関係者を招いて「神戸ビーフ」試食会が開催されましたが、今回、一般参加者を対象に｢神戸ビーフ」フェアが開催されます。

So far 65 have registered for the Event and capacity is 100.
This event gives you an opportunity to not only eat pure Kobe Beef from the city of Kobe but also gives you the education of what Wagyu is and Wagyu business in USA (what are the differences in the Kobe Beef Style and all other Wagyu brands?).
Yumi, our staff was able to bring the Owner of John Howie Steak to the event and talk about the customer’s preference at his restaurant and do the demonstration how he cooks steak and his own style of Shabu Shabu! Shiro-san, Founder of Shiro’s Sushi and Nishino-san, Owner of Nishino Restaurant are also helping to celebrate Washoku!
A representative from Itoham America is going to talk about the consumption of Wagyu in the USA, plus there will be a Sake tasting booth, Jazz entertainment etc. We have lots of collaboration for JASSW to have a successful event.

1月16日金曜日、シアトルセンター「神戸ベル」前で当事務所、シアトル神戸姉妹都市協会、兵庫県ワシントン州事務所、さくら祭り実行委員会等の主催で「阪神・淡路大震災20年追悼式典」が開催されました。朝まで降っていた雨もすっかり上がり、この季節のシアトルでは珍しい明るい太陽の下、60名以上の方々にご参加いただき、6,434の犠牲者に対して哀悼の意を捧げました。
来賓の挨拶、シアトル仏教会僧侶による祈願文の朗読に続き、午後12時46分（日本時間1月17日午前5時46分）にあわせて全員で黙とうをささげたあと、出席者一人一人が追悼の思いを込めて鐘を撞きました。
出席された大村在シアトル日本国総領事、シアトル市役所代表Harper氏、ワシントン州政府代表Uy氏は口をそろえて「シアトルと神戸の姉妹都市関係はとても大切。今後ともこの強固な関係が続いてほしい。」と挨拶されました。
式典の後には、シアトルセンターArmoryで被災地の震災復興の様子や、神戸市、シアトル市の災害に備えた取り組みについての紹介を行いました。
1月17日（日本時間）、あの阪神・淡路大震災からちょうど20年目を迎えます。被災地ではこれまで日本国内はもとより、シアトルの皆様をはじめとする世界中の方々からの温かい支援を受け、復興を果たすことができました。
震災直後、ここシアトルでは日系の方々をはじめとするシアトル市民の皆さんがシアトルセンター神戸ベルの前に集まり、5日間にわたり追悼の鐘を撞いて6千名以上にのぼる犠牲者の冥福を祈ってくださいました。
今年は20周年の節目を迎え、震災発生時刻（日本時間1月17日午前5時46分、シアトル時間1月16日午後12時46分）に合わせ1月16日正午から、神戸ベル前にて震災20年追悼式典を開催いたします。

January 17, 2015 will mark the 20th Anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
Today, our office sent a set of bamboo lanterns with prayers and wishes written by the people of the Seattle area to Kobe.
The calligraphy and paper art seen inside the top sections of the four lanterns was done by a local paper artist, who is originally from Kobe, Ms. Sachi Tanimoto.
Among the more than 100 signatures are Ed Murray, the Seattle Mayor, and Masahiro Ohmura, the Consul General of Japan in Seattle. We wish to thank everyone who signed the lanterns! The people of Kobe greatly appreciate Seattle’s support both during the immediate recovery and in the present day.
来年の1月17日、あの阪神・淡路大震災からちょうど20年目を迎えます。
当日神戸で行われる20年記念慰霊祭に向けて、ここシアトルから祈りを込めた竹灯篭を今日神戸に送りました。
題字の文字は切り絵で、ベルビュー在住の切り絵作家、谷本佐智さんにお願いしました。（谷本さんは神戸出身で、ご自身も被災されています。）
外側にはシアトル市長、在シアトル総領事をはじめ100名以上の皆さんのメッセージが書き込まれました。皆さんありがとうございました。
The bamboo lanterns were made from a single piece of bamboo. As you can see, it was a little difficult to cut! / 竹灯篭は一本の竹から作成しました。切るのに少し苦労しました。

From November 8th to 22nd, the first exchange between the International Community School (ICS) in Kirkland, WA and Kobe took place. Two students from Kobe University Secondary School (KUSS) spent two weeks at ICS, participating in classes. They also went on excursions with their host families as well as visited companies in the area such as Microsoft. Next year, in May, 25 students from ICS will visit Kobe. We look forward to keeping this new exchange going for many years to come.
11月8日～22日、今年春から進めてきた、神戸の「神戸大学附属中等教育学校」とカークランドのInternational Community Schoolとの交流の第一弾として神戸側から2人の生徒が短期留学に訪れました。彼らは2週間にわたりICSの授業に参加するとともに、マイクロソフト社や市役所への訪問、ホストファミリーによるエクスカーションなど、充実した時間を過ごしました。
来年5月にはICS側から約25人の生徒が1週間の神戸訪問を予定されており、今後一層の交流が期待されます。
